Like a toe (with nailpoish!), LEBLOGSKI is getting cut off.
When asked about the idea of shutting it down, I told the Founding Dudes that its absence will most likely go universally unnoticed. LF's social media integration (Facebook / Twitter) is strong enough to get it into the next round robin (#amiwrong). It is a much smoother way for them to connect with Achievers. But just in case people see this, thank you very much for reading. There have been a couple instances when people have mentioned to me at a Lebowski Fest that they've read it, which is always surprising and flattering.

I knew they were coming.
If you read* my posts, you knew it too.
You'd think I had one leg longer than the other - the amount of circles I walked around that Nightline camera crew for I attempted to get into the background of more shots that I could count... I succeeded twice.

Paused DVR glory! You're allowed to blink once as long as you don't blink the second time I appear in the background.

It was great to see friends like the entire "Chinamen with Lebowski's Legs" Philly foursome get a moment in front of the camera. However, it was an utter shame the famous Mrs. Jamtoss fell victim to the red pen of Nightline's editor.

The highlight of the overall strike of a piece was it's conclusion. I was on the lane with the eventual "Best Walter" (and Trivia 2nd place winner I might add!) and pictured the before and after of the most clutch roll in Lebowski Fest history!

Minka Kelly, who I have been "a fan" (to use the parlance of our times) since she was on NBC's Friday Night Lights has just been named Esquire Magazine's Sexiest Woman Alive. Here are a couple of quotes from her interview in which she is sharing a story of what it was like to have a mother 'dance' for a living:

"Sometimes she would have a really great night, and so she would wake me up in the middle of the night and we'd go to Ralphs and go grocery shopping..."

Did they have a value club card?

"...And that was so much fun. We'd have the whole grocery store to ourselves, and we would have a blast and buy a hundred dollars in groceries. And it was just the best day ever. The best day."

Lebowski Fest Regret

In nearly every single possible way my Lebowski Fest Chicago 2010 experience was an awesome success.

Bringing in a friend to the Movie Party that had never been to a Lebowski Fest
Seeing an 80s Movie Villian rock a keytar
Allotting the appropriate time for a pre-Bowling Party burger at Kuma's (avoiding the Metallica burger 'cause it probably tastes like a bunch of assholes)
Winning my second Trivia competition
Loving that Chicago stepped up and debuted new costume ideas never before seen

But there is one regret.
There was a man I saw at the Bowling Party.
I don't have a picture of him in my files.
Maybe he's captured on one of the many Achiever photo submissions (check it out on Facebook if you haven't), but I haven't seen it yet.
My regret is not saying something* to him.

And now I'm going to live until the next time there's a Lebowski Fest in Chicago with a regret I have... hoping that this same man will be at the next one...

Which reminds me - don't regret missing out on the next Lebowski Fest Seattle next weekend if you can:

Honestly, I think I set a record low as far as how many pictures I took the past Friday & Saturday during Lebowski Fest Chicago. Part of it is because many more people take better pictures and it's increasingly easier to find other people's albums on Facebook.

With that disclaimer, like Lebowski Fest Chicago, now behind us here are my top ten favorite pictures (in no particular order) from my own personal camera:

Over the line!

This Walter didn't win "Best Walter" but I appreciated the effort in detail with show dog picture.

One of the first top tier costumes I saw during the Bowling Party. Admittedly, the fact that this is a couple dressing up together touched a soft spot (Well yes, what did you think this was all about? Fun and games?)

The Golfer has been done before, and by many people (yours truly included). However, this costume was by far the best executed. She had it won for me at the Argyle socks - but the golf bag to boot was icing on the visor topped cake.

Those that attended the 9th Annual Lebowski Fest in Louisville were introduced to the unveiling of "Hot Ass Maggie" as a method to showcase a blanket toss. I have the feeling this group costume idea will become a Lebowski Fest mainstay.

I think I heard the Founding Dudes say that this past weekend was the 40th or so Fest. Which means anytime you hear them say, "Lebowski Fest First" when it comes to a costume it's quite extraordinary. It's also a great costume because you'd only know this was a costume once inside a Lebowski Fest. (And for those of you wanting to be a Trivia champion - don't forget the name Irene Olga López.)

In what the Founding Dudes called another LF-First, what you have here is the Corvette of Larry Sellers' neighbor. Oh, and that's a giant crowbar. Bonus points for the "Do you see what happens, Larry" sticker on the car. (They also won brownie points for giving me my personal Fest highlight: they said they've actually read these posts to me!)

Lebowski Fest Chicago 2010 set itself apart from the others in how the Best Costume Finalists SOLD their characters. Each were given the microphone and nearly all of them exponentially added to their costume with brilliant performance. Knox Harrington, the video artist, has been done before (yes yes) and even by people who look more like David Thewlis, but none of them got out a phone to talk to Sandra and laugh like this character!

I urge everyone to find better angles of this, Best Costume winning, costume. See if you can figure it out by from the clues such as "tripped on a cloud" and "tore my mind on a jagged sky." Some of the best, next level, costumes cause everyone to pause to think through the process. The one aspect of this costume that pictures won't be able to translate is how this man took the microphone and led the entire Bowling Party in a sing-a-long to his costume. After that, he walked off the stage the winner.

Achievers who are attending the Movie Party this Friday in Chicago will only get a tease of what Vaudezilla brings to the party.
Don't let your thinking about this case get uptight... Consider buying your tickets before they bust out (pun, regretfully, intended) at the Portage Theater, the venue of choice for the Lebowski Fest Chicago Movie Party. You can expect ticket sales to peak after their Lebowski Fest showing.

Back to the babes: My prior assumptions of the show's rumored expansion have since been confirmed:

"We have expanded this year. We've got twice as many bowling showgirls, a slew of new characters (as well as some old familiar favorites), and - sure to make you happy - all-new original sketches to go along with last year's favorites!

It's bigger. It's Lebowski-er. It's going to be a fun time."

I met nearly all of these performers last year. It was my privilege to bowl with them during last year's Bowling Party. The heart of this crew is the Dick Dijon / Red Hot Annie power couple: Who took home a Best Maude and Trivia trophy abidingly last year (not exactly lightweights). The only reason, in my mind, that Maria May I didn't win Best Jesus is because her breakaway purple jumpsuit isn't exactly "movie accurate."

Oh by the way... This part of Friday's festivities: The live action performance on the stage with top notch quality and top shelf boobs... That's all IN ADDITION to watching one of your most favorite Movies of all time on a large screen. I'll see you there.[TQ]

Lebowski Fest Chicago starts this Friday and I'm getting very excited, the best way to describe the feeling might be:
The complete opposite feeling of a Jack-Daniels-drunken Nihilist passed out in a Bunny-side-Pool.

Late last night I e-mailed the Founding Dudes, volunteering my what-have-you skill set because the Fest is rather close to where I live. This isn't the first time I'm offered aid - usually they tell me they have it covered. The Founding Dudes are pros at this - a Swiss fucking Watch.

But they said they might need my help at the door.
HELP AT THE DOOR!
Fair warning, tell Walter

Here's a couple things you can expect to see if I'm working the will call desk for example:
"Is this your only ID?" when someone tries to prove who they are (expect this said in record volume).
"Over the line!" when someone gets too anty and cuts in front of another Achiever.

Here's a couple more gems I might throw out if I'm ripping ticket stubs:
"Fucking dog has fucking papers" when someone hands me a computer print out ticket.
"I can see your anxious for me to get to the point" if I happen to be distracted or delayed somehow.
"It don't matter to Jesus!" if someone thanks me at any point.

Okay, so that last example is rather lame and not in proper context... Which is why I'm really hoping some of the attendees throw it right back at me....

Suggestions:
"Who am I? Who am I? I'm the guy that's gonna KICK-" when I ask for your name at Will Call.
If a special lady friend coos "Your not blowing" while my head is down buried in a pile of names I'm going to probably give someone a High-5.

Who am I kidding? Any reference anybody attempts to throw at me is going to be awesome. Can't wait to see you all there!

Achiever Wardrobe Malfucntion

For those that don't know, I actually discovered www.leb owskifest.com because I wanted that poster over The Dude's bar. I bought that poster, and soon a shirt, before immersing myself in the Forum.

At first, I only read from afar - never posting. After much envy, I finally attended a Lebowski Fest when they came to my backyard. Some stranger, no not an actual Stranger, asked if I had ever been to the one in Louisville. The next July I was in Louisville.

Countless friends, and remarkable experiences later - not to mention a crazy fan email asking about a blog - I am now posting on the site and am about to attend my 6th Fest this weekend when it returns to Chicago.

That shirt I mentioned earlier, I love it. Without a doubt it is a "first string shirt" that I intentionally wear to special occasions. I wore it to when I first saw Radiohead live (where somebody yelled to me, "Hey!!! The Dude Abides! " and I replied with my usual, "And a good day to you sir!") and to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Last month I wore it to a company outing to Wrigley Field. That night I had made a poor judgment call by trying to make it through an opening that wasn't exactly pedestrian friendly and punctured my absolute favorite shirt. I had felt like I had failed to achieve, even in the modest task that was my charge.

(Not since I had ripped my Foo Fighters, first ever concert t-shirt, had I felt instant regret and sadness at a wardrobe malfunction)

But fear not! As if the Founding Dudes had sensed the calamity, they have recently unveiled a new Achiever Shirt! (Black. Darker'n a black steer's tookus on a moonless prairie night.)

So I'm actually faced with quite a conundrum: What should I replace it with? I love the Royal Blue classic edition, but understand the new Black model will easily go with more formal attire. Then again, you have the Visible Green counterpart that I know many prefer.

Which should I choose? Thankfully, all three options should be available at the Merch stand this weekend at Lebowski Fest Chicago 2010.

Rollin' Outta Here Naked

About this time last year I wrote about the fantastically creative and abidingly achieving Vaudezilla group of Burlesque superiority.

If you were at the 2009 Lebowski Fest Chicago Movie Party, you only got a tease (pun appropriate) of what Rollin' Outta Here Naked had to offer. If you saw them at the Bowling Party, for example, you got a slightly better understanding.

Last year I was fortunate enough to get a ticket to one of their performances before they all sold out. This year looks to be even better because it appears to have expanded (judging by at least one of their promotional posters).

I can not stress the following statement enough: Rolling Outta Here Naked was the most marvelous, smart and true, original work of entertainment inspired by The Big Lebowski I have ever seen.

And I haven't even gotten to the fact that they have more highly attractive (and scantily clad) women than a Jackie Treehorn Garden Party. -I'll get to that in a a moment.

The true joy, for me at least, were the original sketches that ran in between the Burlesque sets. We all know the ins and outs of what we saw in the movie, but Rollin' Outta Here Naked presents the what-have-you such as "lost scenes" that occur in between some of our most favorite Lebowski moments. I have to admit that I went there mainly to see a hot She-sus and a big chested Walter, but was more than impressed by the commitment of Dick Dijon and skill of Logan Conner.

Let's not forget, let's not forget, that Vaudezilla features Red Hot Annie, Donna Touch, Maria May I and many more... You'll leave knowing that her life was in your hands and that their clothes were on the floor. Marty's cycle, cute Nihilists and a sexy Pederast - what more could you want? (How about Brandt! He's also there.) Note: if you see it with your special lady friend, it also increases the chances of conception.

The timing is no coincidence. These Achievers are, well... Achievers (how proud we are of all of them). The month was picked to coincide with Lebowski Fest Chicago 2010. Although the Fest is just September 17 & 18 (which will include the talent of Vaudezilla), Rollin' Outta Here Naked is a very free spited show running every Friday and Saturday Night in September. I strongly suggest you buy tickets ahead of time to see them at Chicago's Greenhouse Theater. Don't settle for just their performance at the Portage Theater. Dude, did you get tickets to that yet?[TQ]

An open letter to Achievers traveling to Chicago

Dear fellow Achiever,

As you know, Lebowski Fest is coming back to Chicago next month! That's my neck of the woods. Another Achiever asked me for advice on a hotel. I saw yet one more had posted on the Forum looking for help as well.

Here's my official response to where you should stay if you're planning on traveling to Chicago for Lebowski Fest: I'm sorry, I wasn't listening...

Look, I'm very sorry fellow Achiever - but I live here. Asking me about local hotels is totally out of my element. To make matters unfortunately worse, the two venues of LF-Chicago (Portage Theater & Diversey River Rock and Bowl) aren't really all that close to one of Chicago's many train lines. In a perfect world, I'd tell you to pick a place downtown - in the "Loop" and take an eL train out to the site. But unless you're willing to walk a mile and half in post midnight (and post White Russian) conditions I think you're better off taking a cab.

If you're looking for a hotel that's within walking distance of the Fest sites (like how we are spoiled with in Louisville), it's not an option. The areas are rather residential, with no hotels in sight.

So when it comes to asking me to track down a hotel possiblity for you -
I've got to uh - tender my resignation or whatever, because uh -

This is leaving you holding a bag of Walter's undeies, I understand. You thought you were getting a hotel recommendation. All I can say is pick a well-known national hotel chain you are comfortable with and go to the 'net to search for one as close to the downtown area that you can afford. The Movie Party and Bowling Party aren't downtown, but you'll want to be downtown to do some sightseeing and general touristy what have you while you're in town.

For the record, if I had someone coming into town to see me - I'd put them at this hotel. It's close to where I live (which means nothing to you), walking distance to the eL to get you downtown. (Bonus point of relevance: it is actually less than 8 miles from where the Movie Party is going to be held.) But also for the record, I can't formally recommend a hotel just off of the Airport because you deserve to have a downtown Chicago experience to get the full experience of the city I love so much.

I thought I was proud of my "action photos" from the Garden Party, but this Costume Contest action shot should be in a museum. For the record, the "Cash Machine" costume was also inspired. The currency it dispensed was specifically made for the Fest. Multiple colors and multiple designs! My favorite was the design that had a picture of Brandt in the "president position" and was worth $100. Another great design was the rare $1,000 bill featuring Bunny.

All you can say, about this picture and that costume (and it's accessories) is...

I call the Monday after the Annual Lebowski Fest, unofficially of course, "Annual Upload Day." I take this day off of work (Are you employed, sir?) not only because I've spent a long day prior driving and sifting through my own photos, but also I love seeing all the pictures others have to share and finding the various media reports.

There's a lot to mention and share, which will be gotten to in due time. Today I am focusing on my top five pictures from the Garden Party. You are more than welcome to view my entire album (of the whole weekend).

However, to appreciate the following five pictures - know this:
I almost became a Lebowski Fest Cliche.

While waiting in my hotel lobby circa 1:30 AM post Movie Party for a pizza, I realized my camera was not my pocket (Could you slide your shorts down Mr. Lebowski, please?). It didn't take me long to write it off for good. Thankfully, it took longer for the food delivery and decided to walk back to the very vacant and more dark lawn. The feeling was more disappointing than anger. I really didn't take all than many Movie Party pictures.

I can see you're anxious for me to get to the point.
After too many minutes of using my phone as a digital lantern to no avail, a security guy asked what I was looking for [and if it was the camera he had earlier found]!

Rejuvenated, I was able to take harder than it appears timed photographs of the Garden Party Games the following afternoon. I don't have a high speed camera, but it certainly performed like one. Enjoy the following action shots:

ABC's Nightline to cover Lebowski Fest!

Anyone who "follows" on Twitter or is a "friend" on Facebook saw the big news that Jeremy Hubbard of ABC's Nightline will be attending, and covering, the 9th Annual Lebowski Fest!

Last year, I was able to make my Internet Video News world debut courtesy the Courier-Journal. (I can't believe they unposted the video! Trust me, I was talking very fast to a low angle camera quoting like a madman) So now I'm going to try to take it National. Consider yourself on notice, Mr. Hubbard!

Since it appears that Jeremy Hubbard has the title of "Digital Correspondent" it's likely that the story of our beloved Fest will only be available as online content, 100% electonic, and that's cool. But I'm hoping that ABC will abide by at least featuring the clip at the end of a particular night (on a weekday?). Personally, I think ABC should consider airing a Martin Bashir Multi-part Michael Jackson Interview in Prime Time project/concept. Ya hear that Mr. Hubbard? Bashir got Jacko, but you've got The Dude (and probably twenty other Dudes along with more Walters and a handful of Maudes)!

I'm somewhat familiar with this anchor. Being a veteran of insomniac tendencies (laying facedown in a sleepless muck), I've seen Mr. Hubbard on ABC's overnight news program: ABC News Now. Below is a clip from his "farewell" broadcast. A few things to take away from that clip:

-This guy's got a sense of humor
-His wife's last name is "Hottman" (Way to go Donny!)
-In something somewhat Lebowski Fest related: he's not against costumes

Chalupa, of the Lebowski Podcast, is hosting an informal what-have-you meetup before the Garden Party on Saturday July 17 at 3 pm (one hour before the Garden Party starts). For reasons unknown to me, I'm listed as a bullet point. It's probably the first time I've ever been bullet point worthy - so I've had that fueling my self esteem since I saw it.

The beauty of this is its simplicity. It adds a bonus hour into our Fest fun! Not to mention, the time is perfectly Lebowski (it's in line with any toe acquisition deadlines). If you didn't know that meant 3 o'clock you might need to study up for that trivia competition.

Liam will probably also be there.

My attendance would involve me having to either drive down a day earlier or waking up way too early for a week day (What day is this?). Instead, I make it a point to get my car close enough to Louisville by noon (Is that some kind of Eastern time zone?) in order to be within WFPK's antenna strength when the Lebowski Live Lunch starts.

Uh, Dude, tomorrow's already the ten days to the next Lebowski Fest mark.

There will be food options for you at the 9th Annual Lebowski Fest.
Both outdoors at the Movie & Garden Party and indoors during the Bowling Party.
Honestly, I can't remember specifically all the edible options available.
Mainly, you can expect general Americana fare you'd expect at outdoor fests and local bowling alleys.

But it probably won't be a high priority of yours during the festivities.
Yes, there will be Oat Sodas.
Yes, there will be White Russians.
Sadly, Pepsi discontinued Orange Slice years ago.
A word of advice: You should stay away from anything in Folgers cans if you're thirsty.

However, as soon as you're walking off The Executive Strike & Spare property - it's gonna hit you. You may be done drinking, but you will start getting hungry. Even if you were in the condition to drive, and your car wasn't stolen (or perhaps towed), you might not know where to go because of you being an out-of-towner and it being past midnight.

I won't go into detail about how I discovered Sicilian Pizza & Pasta (lota ins lota outs), but here's all that you need to know: Not only are they open until 2 am on Friday and 4 am on Saturday but also they will deliver to the row of hotels many of us will be staying at on Phillips Lane!

My advice to you: (besides getting a job, sir) Enter the digits of 502-589-8686 into your bag phone's saved numbers. That's the number that you will be thanking me for having in your phone in your hour of desperate need for late night pizza.

Are there other pizza locations in Louisville? Yes.
Will you get a discount for being an Achiever? No.
What does this have to do with The Big Lebowski? Nothing, but there aren't any In-N-Out locations near Louisville!

Top 3 Things You'll Need at a Lebowski Fest

Now that we're less than two weeks away from the 9th Annual Lebowski Fest in Louisville, I thought I'd share what I consider to be the three most important items you'll want to pack.

In my opinion, this list serves true whether this is your first or fourteenth Fest.

#1: Your tickets. Put'em in your wallet, or purse, or what have you! I remember the exact moment last year when I realized my tickets were on my desk: I was about halfway between Indianapolis and Louisville (which is about four hours from where my drive began). For about fifteen seconds I was doing the math in how long it would take for me to turn the car around... Eventually I mentally said fuck it Dude, and changed my route to the WHY Louisville store to buy'em again (but at least without any service fees).

This was especially painful to me as I had written a LEBLOGSKI pos t when I had received my tickets, and even took a stupid picture of them. Of course, if you haven't bought tickets yet - you should go to ticketweb, the aforementioned W.H.Y. Louisville store or ear X-tacy.

#2: Whatever device charges your camera (or device's battery). Yes, this is more important than remembering your actual camera. If you happen to forget your camera, you can always find a local Ralphs and pick up a cheap disposable camera (that is if you are still rocking the bag phone). Not to mention, forgetting your camera at home insures that you won't lose your camera at the Fest. (Every year, like Lebowski Fest War Casualties, cameras are left behind or lost or thrown high up into the air on a garden party blanket toss never to be found again)

Having a nice camera, with no power, will make you feel like a techno pop group of nihilists just cut off your johnson. Once again, this is a lesson that I learned the hard way. Please learn from my mistake - I had my camera die like Donny during the announcements of the Best Costume finalists.

#3: Cash (alternate spelling: CA$H). Yeah, this kind of a stark and cold item for a fun list - but true nonetheless. I'm not saying you won't be able to find a cash machine if you need to get $1,000 (or $100? Brandt I'm looking in your direction?), but it's kind of a pain. Not to mention I view the service charges random cash machines charge qualifies as "funny stuff" and is not to be tolerated. I'll be bringing unmarked non-consecutive twenties.

For the record, I haven't gone cashless at any Lebowski Fest. But I spend an odd amount of time trying to figure out how much cash is needed to purchase enough oat sodas to get me through a Fest. How much will you personally need? Well Dude, we just don't know.

I'm going to try to increase the frequency of my posts as we get closer to Friday July 16. A lot of new shit is coming to light and I want to keep y'all as updated as a lazy blogger can.[TQ]

I can't wait until The 9th Annual Lebowski Fest, July 16 & 17, in Louisville!
If you haven't seen the schedule yet, best you check it out.
Some of us may be see the schedule and start looking forward to the musical acts.
At least check out The Felice Brothers, who will entertaining us Achievers during Friday's Movie Party.
Others may be happy to know that Miller will once again be providing the Oat Sodas.

Personally, I can't wait to see a lot of people that I haven't seen in 12 months.

We're within a month Achievers & Amateurs!

A quick update on the topic of my last post: the "Bring Liam to Lebowski Fest - Lousisville" initiative. The page has grown to over 25% of what is needed to reach the stated goal of 500 "likes." I wish I knew the equivalent of throwing Facebook a fancy briefcase full of phonebooks to increase that number. At this point, I think everybody who reads my LEBLOGSKI posts has already "liked" the page. Don't want to get all "Her life is in your hands" on yeah, but... I think everyone is gonna have to campaign if it's gonna happen.

Speaking of topics from posts' past - Remember when I wrote an Open Letter to Bill Green? Well, it turns out the Bald & Brilliant (attributes listed in no particular order) Bill Green will be classing up the joint: He'll be at the 9th Annual Lebowski Fest. All About Liam (5 Weeks Until Lebowski Fest)

This post is dedicated to Jim Hoosier - the man, or dare I say Lebowski Fest Legend, who portrayed the stoic bowling partner of Jesus Quintana. A character we all know and love as Liam. Jim "Liam" Hoosier has taken ownership of this character with the zeal best personified in his classic "ball polishing "scene. About two years ago, I met Jim for the first time. I remember being so happy to have my picture taken with him. Also, I remember how Jim/Liam didn't hesitate at all to abide in my photo request. The smiles here are genuine:

I didn't know it then, but it would be nearly a year and a half until the next time I saw Jim. Amazingly, by now we were both friends on Facebook (I remember running around the office gloating, "Dude, 'Liam' from The Big Lebowski actually requested MY friendship on Facebook. Mark it!" This second time I saw Jim also currently remains the last time I saw him. It was in Chicago at its 2009 Lebowski Fest Speed of Sound Tour stop. It was then I took the best video of those nights that didn't involve the amazing Burlesque dancers of Vaudezilla:

I can see you're anxious for me to get to the point.
When will I see Liam next? I'm hoping it's in five weeks, at the 9th Annual Lebowski Fest. A campaign, petition, what have you has started on Facebook. I urge you to "like" Bring Liam to Lebowski Fest - Louisville. One of the Founding Dudes of Lebowski Fest is reported to say that if this page gets 500 "likes" there is a "GREAT chance Liam will be there!!" First and foremost, I need to formally apologize for not giving credit where credit is due. In my "Open Letter to Bill Green" post, I used one of your creative designs to highlight my point that Bill Green is awesome.

This is especially troubling for me because I consider the specific designer of the stolen graphic my friend. Late last year, when visiting Chicago with his Special Lady Friend, we went out to a nice Steak Restaurant to discuss many items NOT-related to The Big Lebowski. It was a charming evening indeed.

I was first clued into your expertise this time last year. When starting the countdown for the 8th Annual Lebowski Fest I clumsily created the following graphic:

Dear Mr. Howard,

I see you rolled your way into the semis. Dios mio man.

It's a shame that your NBA Eastern Conference Final schedule conflicts with the first ever Lebowski Fest in the Sunshine State. I'm rooting for you Mr. Howard. You are one of the NBA's best personalities. Like you, I also blog. Unlike you, my blogs don't lead to exorbitant fines. I hope your Orlando Magic jump out to a 2-0 lead before the series takes you to Boston for Game 3 on Saturday June 22.

If your team does in fact jump out to that series lead, I think you should reward yourself with a nice movie... Might I suggest the Lebowski Fest Movie Party at the Orlando House of Blues? Yes, I realize that Game 3 is scheduled for the following night in Boston, and that you'll probably be flying that evening. But you draw a lot of water for that team - I'm sure you can convince the team to fly out first thing on Saturday. Isn't that why the team owns it's own plane anyways? To allow you these options once they present themselves?

Lebowski Fest is really up your alley Mr. Howard. You obviously are a fan of both movies and wearing costumes:

An Open Letter to Bill Green

Dear Mr. Green,

I have actually met you (twice!), which is different from the past two Open Letter recipients. However, I must admit that two talks probably totaled less than 50 words combined. We briefly discussed Radiohead in 2008 and the decision to not have individual posters for the Speed of Sound Tour in 2009.

I can see you're anxious for me to get to the point.

As the Lebowski Fest Official Poster Guru, I would like to congratulate and thank you for your most recent effort/contribution: The Lebowski Fest Orlando "Duddha" poster. It's a beautiful tapestry of Lebowski references. The rug is like one of those Magic Eye 3D posters (which I was never able to figure out - making me love your poster exponentially more). The closer I look into the Duddha rug, the more I appreciate the thought and care that went into it.

I hope you understand how much we Achievers look forward to your inspired creations. It's the reason why many of us are fans of Bill Green Studios on Facebook. Your Lebowski Fest Chicago poster hangs triumphantly on my condo wall, more than deserving of it's ridiculously expensive professional custom framing... Which brings me to my selfish reason for why I have decided to write an open letter to you:

Please create another Chicago poster. Understanding that you have recently released the Lebowski Fest Orlando Poster, and assuming you probably already have solid ideas for the 9th Annual Poster, I wonder if you are currently working on ideas for the Fest after that. Of course, I'm talking about the Lebowski Fest Chicago, which starts September 17.

Before I make my poster suggestion - please know that I am a fuckin' amateur when it comes to art. By absolutely no means am I implying or inferring that I know more than you. And of course, I will love whatever trail you choose to follow.

This is the official flag of the City of Chicago. I know I'm biased, but it's pretty logjammin' awesome. Thaaat's right, Dude. The beauty of this [flag] is its simplicity. The flag looks the same whether it is upside down or reverse. You literally can not hang it incorrectly. That being said, it's also a fuckin' Swiss watch as far as each piece has a meaning (the stripes, the stars, even the points on the stars!). So that's my suggestion for you Mr. Bill Green. There have been many t-shirts and such using the flag as it's inspiration already.

An Open Letter to a Stranger

Dear Mr. Pin Model,

I don't know you, but the above picture of you continues to bring me joy more than a year after I first saw it. Speaking of joy, perhaps you don't realize how much joy that pin costume you so dutifully modeled gave thousands.

The revamped pin head costumes were commissioned by the Founding Dudes to help them embark on 2009's historically epic Speed of Sound Tour. The pins made their debut at the Bonnaroo Music Festival before showing up in Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, San Diego, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Austin and (of course) Louisville!

Do you have a facebook account Mr. Unknown to Me Bowling Pin Model Man? If you do, you know the importance of one's Profile Picture. Many people quickly changed their Profile Picture to the one they took in between these pin costumes.

I don't know where in the world you live, but it has to be near one of the upcoming Lebowski Fests. Judging by your facial expression, it appears you are having a difficult time comprehending why such costumes would be custom ordered for professional construction. If you were to attend a Lebowski Fest, all doubt will be removed. And, not to mention, if you come to a Lebowski Fest you yourself can be pictured WITH the pins instead of a stark isolated solo portrait AS it.

What else can I learn from your picture that can potentially give me a glimpse into your life?

You have an awesome mustache. On a personal level, I'm an enormous fan of high quality facial hair - mainly because I'm a fuckin' amateur in the beard growth department. Many key characters in The Big Lebowski have iconic facial hair. You and your mustache will feel at home.

I can see you're sporting a pair of running shoes. And by the looks of it, those things get used. You're not wearing any pristine white, fresh out of the box, kicks. That footwear will serve you well if you happen to attend the 9th Annual in Louisville because there's an outdoor aspect to that Fest. Also at that Fest has side games such as The Ringer Toss and Mug Throw in which athletic footwear will give you a key advantage over those wearing jellies.

Come to think about it, I might be making a gross assumption: Have you even seen The Big Lebowski Mr. Bowling Pin Model with Athletic Shoes and a Mustache? All my enthusiasm of getting to you to a Fest doesn't necessarily dissipate if you haven't seen it. True, it's not a good experience to see the movie for the first time at a Fest. (SPOILER ALERT: people tend to shout their favorite lines) Send me an e-mail and I'll overnight one of my many DVD copies. Don't worry about me, I'll give you the Achiever Edition and if I need to, I can always watch the 10th Anniversary Edition I picked up last year. Don't worry about the postage in returning it - you can joyfully hand it back to me when we meet up at your first Fest.

Tickets are on sale now, so I'd recommend not delaying any further. It's a wonderful voyage to your first Fest!

An Open Letter to John Goodman

(A quick note to everybody not named John Goodman: Chalupa of the Lebowski Podcast sent me this story yesterday - once you read that you'll get up to speed on this letter)

Mr. Goodman,

Please accept my official invitation to attend an upcoming Lebowski Fest. I should mention now that I have no authority from Will Russell or Scott Shuffitt (the "founding dudes" of Lebowski Fest).

My invitation is merely just a suggestion from one Fest attendee (me) to another potential attendee (hopefully you). As someone who spent years on the sidelines wanting to go to a Fest, and finally did - I find myself uniquely qualified to help convince someone who appears to be on the fence about attending [such as you might be].

Knowing that your time is precious, I'll list a few quick reasons:

-It is as fun as it looks... And that's well before the bowling starts.
-It is not a Star Trek convention... Nobody is going to hassle you asking if you know the name of Walter's dog.
-You might end up taking more pictures than being pictured... I won't lie to you (no funny stuff), you will be very popular at a Lebowski Fest and many people (such as yours truly) will request to be photographed with you. But I can assure you that you are going to want to take pictures of your own to help share your experience with others.

Also, on a personal level, let me say that I get the sense that you will only attend if one of your fellow billed co-stars join you. Please, don't let this be the barrier preventing your decision to come out. The same reason kept me away for years, and I finally decided three years ago to fly it solo. It didn't take me long to meet instant friends. At the very least - you can hang out with me.

I can't offer you much Mr. Goodman. And, no offense, if I had the option of cutting off my toe to get you to a Lebowski Fest I would decline it and keep my toe. However, if needed: I will sacrifice my hotel room. People will be happy to let me crash in their room knowing I gave it up to get Mr. John Goodman to town.

As much as I got a kick out of the Achiever Forum back before I even attended my first Lebowski Fest, I have to admit that facebook has really tied the community together in a much better way.

It makes it a ton easier to share photos after Fests, and to foster friendships of people met.
And it works just as well before the Fest as well.

Costume Considerations for the upcoming Lebowski Fest season

I love it when an unexpected reference surprises me when doing something completely unrelated to The Big Lebowski.

For example, today I was reading my way through the Sports Blogs on Yahoo (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs) which, among many topics, mentioned that Philadelphia Phillies Outfielder J ayson Werth shaved his significant beard.

I had the opportunity to draft Mr. Werth in my league's fantasy baseball draft two Sundays ago, but chose not to... And after I saw the below photoshopped picture the Yahoo! Big League Stew blog I'm really starting to regret it:

Beard growth is important.
There's a friend here in Chicago that I've told can "grow a Walter quality beard." He is hesitant because of a wedding he must go to in August. Thankfully, Chicago's Fest is not until September!

At the 7th Annual Lebowski Fest I bowled with this lovely married couple:

For me, it was heartwarming that the wife put up with the husband growing a true Jesus goatee. She readily admitted that she was eagerly anticipating it's era ending the day after the Fest.

On the other hand, there really isn't any planning involved if you want a Dude beard. I honestly think that's more of a lifestyle choice - I'm certain that the best Dude beards take years. So if you want to really accent your Walter or Jesus costume at one of the many upcoming Lebowski Fests - start thinking about when you're going to step away from the razor.

As for me personally? Even though I'm 31 years old I would need to take 3 months off of work (to not only start an attempt at beard growing, but to start hormone injections) to consider a venture like this... As for all you Special Lady Friends out there, you'll just have to decide a level of commitment? I've seen women use makeup, use glue'n'stache, marker, etc...

It was recently announced that actor Mike Gomez will be at next weekend's Lebowski Fest Los Angeles.

He played the cop who escorted The Dude through the impound lot after his car was discovered. His car, for those of you studying for Lebowski Fest Trivia, was found the night prior lodged against an abutment in Van Nuys.

That scene is one of the many gem-filled pieces in our favorite movie, but when I first saw the news of Gomez's appearance his only scene was not the first recollection that came to my mind...

Please humor me as I walk down my own personal Lebowski Fest Memory Lane:
On a [very] cold Chicago day in early March 2008 I attended my first ever Lebowski Fest. One of the first costumes I saw instantly "led" me to realize that the quality of my fellow Chicago Achievers was high.

This remains one of my favorite all time costumes. Not visible in that picture is the dry ice they brought with them to really show off their technical skills.

Now although you might think if I ever saw Mike Gomez, I would ask him if he's "got any promising, uh,uh..." Actually, your assumption would be incorrect.

As soon as I saw him I would yell out, "Awh! Jesus - what's that smell, man?"[TQ]

We're less than two weeks away from Lebowski Fest returning the the City of Angels:

Newly announced guests include three film alums who are also no rookies to past Fests:

Jack Kehler (Dude's Landlord), Philip Moon (Woo The Carpet Pisser) and Jim Hoosier (Liam) will there pumping, pissing and pointing. It's also been revealed that Peter Exline (a third of the Walter Trinity) will be there no doubt telling wonderful stories and teaching Achievers lessons.

A frequent phenomenon unique to Lebowski Fests held in Los Angeles occurs when people with odd ties to the movie appear. The newest example will be the presence of Andrea Nunn, who was one of the stand-ins for Julianne Moore in the movie. No where else would a "stand-in" become a notable event.

This isn't going out on a limb, but I expect this upcoming L.A. Lebowski fest to be very Dude-friendly... It is, after all, the first Lebowski Fest in the post Bridges Oscar era.[TQ]

It's going to be all over the Internet: appreciation that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences finally recognized Jeff Bridges as Best Actor.

Here are my few strands that are in my head from this important night...

For the past couple years, the production has included compeers expressing personal antidotes. Yes, the telecast is way too long - but I for one appreciate this new gimmick and hope it continues. Shortly after the Best Actor montage the 5 people walk out on to the stage and I try to instantly guess which person has which nominee.

I was expecting the producers of The Oscars to peg Colin Farrell, co-star of Crazy Heart, to share a story about our Dude. Much to my surprise, it was Michelle Pfeiffer who shared a story from the making of The Fabulous Baker Boys. I guess it's asking too much for ABC to abide us Achievers and have Julianne Moore share a story about borrowing the robe...

But don't put her up on the stage to taunt us.
And don't have Maude share a story about ONLY SPENDING THREE DAYS on the set with Colin Firth to rub salt in our White Russians.

Regardless, it's a great day for the alumni of The Big Lebowski.
Although one could credibly argue that the year No Country For Old Men won Best Picture, including Best Directing and Writing Oscars for both Coens was a more landmark night, tonight had a few highlights:
* Win by TBL alum T-Bone Burnett
* A very Dude-like acceptance speech (Bridges' copious use of the word "man")
* Nominated Coens

Brandt was the first to break the Oscar barrier. Who will be the next? Odds would say Maude is bound to finally get recognized, but don't count out Walter, Donny or even The Stranger as the next likely candidates.

We all agree how Jeff Bridges should celebrate:
Lebowski Fest Los Angeles is less than a month away! Tickets are on sale now. I was at the first Chicago Lebowski Fest in 2008, which was shortly after the before mentioned Oscars of the Coens and remembered an Achiever who wore an Anton Chigurh costume. I expect to see some "Bad" costumes in Los Angeles.[TQ]

The post also thankfully illustrates how many Achievers intentionally misquote (or alter the original lines) to suit specific purposes... Such as, "Dude, uh, tomorrow is already the day LEBOWSKI FEST 2010 TICKETS GO ON SALE!"

More fun with near-quotes: You don't go out and make a living scheduling Fests like that in the middle of a weekday?

With the exception of the New York event (which appears to be an all-in-one bargain Thursday night affair) all of these Fests are set up to hit their targets in a Friday-Saturday fashion.

Are you familiar with the holy trinity of Walter Sobchak?

It's widely recognized that the fictional character immortalized by John Goodman is a based from three actual people: John Milius, "Big" Lew Abernathy and Peter Exline. Earlier today [founding dude] Will Russell sent me a note bringing my attention to the blog of a former Exline student.

Peter Exline, although known for many things, is a notable professor at the University of Southern California.

The former student, Carrie, deserves your best Liam bellyshake for her role in helping connect Exline with Lebowski Fest. Her story is a must read by all Achievers (if you click one link on this entire post, make it this one).

My ten Lebowski Fest wishes for 2010

All of us Achievers were spoiled in 2009.
Never before have there been as many Fests.
We don't know if a year like 2009 will ever be repeated.

It's a natural, zesty feeling, to want more...
In that free spirit, are my top ten Lebowski Fest wishes for 2010.

10. I remember the ticket that I want, avoid the ticket I don't
So I was about four and half hours into my six hour drive last July when I realized I left my tickets back at home... Oh, and this was after I had already received a ticket - for speeding - from an Indiana State Trooper.

9. The Garden Party moves back to the garden
I think I can rationalize why the 8th Annual Garden (a.k.a. pre-bowling) Party was held in the parking lot instead of where it was held the year before... Both locations have their advantages, but I just personally prefer to have grass under my feet than asphalt.

8. Michael Jackson, again, at the After Party dance
It was very apt for the time. Jacko was reckently gone and we were all justly wacko. Even though his passing will be well over a year old, I hope there is still a healthy amount of Michael Jackson (we're talking Rock With You, not just Billie Jean and Thriller) fueling our awful dancing well past 2 am.

7. I meet, and hang out with, "The Bereaved"

One of the best parts of attending a Lebowski Fest is the post-party photo debriefing. It's impossible to catch all that is going on, and you must rely on the photos posted from other perspectives. Of all that I missed, it was the foursome that I regretted the most not meeting. (For the record, I think there is a Dude missing in the above picture - I think it was two girls and two guys) Not only did they show up as "The Bereaved" for the Movie Party, but one of them became one of the most photographed Bunnies in recent memory. (Probably due to her bikini and penchant for having others blow on her toenail polish) And from what I gathered from the pictures they posted, they hit the fest running and were long term thinking marathon party people. I will be trying to introduce myself to them soon.

6. Achiever "Marty" makes the Final Round in Lebowski Trivia

Now this guy I did meet, and spoke to (although briefly) at the 8th Annual. I was very impressed with his knowledge of all things Lebowski and sensed his disappointment when he didn't advance as far as he wanted to in the Trivia competition. It was his first Fest, and it's always difficult for rookies to predict what kinds of questions are thrown at them in a competition not for amateurs. I hope he shows up again, and I think he'll be more ready than most to tackle the competition. I'll be rooting for him.

5. A perfect game is rolled at a Bowling Party
It's going to happen, eventually. It has progressively taken a better score to win the "Best Bowler" trophy at a Lebowski Fest. Yes, the conditions are far from perfect to yield a perfect score. There will be lane overcrowding, frequent distractions, copious amounts of Kahlua. When it happens, the roller will become an instant Legend.

4. Lebowski Fest ventures to Las Vegas

I don't know why the Vegas stop of the 2009 Speed of Sound Tour was canceled. Las Vegas will always be a historically important locale for Lebowski Fest - it hosted the first non-Louisville Fest. It's also the most likely destination that yours truly will fly to in order to attend a Fest.

3. Vaughn returns to exact revenge

With all due respect to the Best Costume winner at the 8th Annual, it has to be considered an upset. This man Vaughn is a living legend when it comes to complex high quality thought provoking costumes at Lebowski Fests. No one can predict what his next costume will be - we can only hope we can see it with our own eyes.

2. Lebowski Fest hits SXSW

Welcome to the first of two utter fantasies, to call them a "wish" is an understatement. Lebowski Fest was at 2009's Bonnaroo. The Fest has also been to Austin, Texas multiple times. Is it too far outside our frame of refrence to think they might one day end up at the SXSW festival? (A festival, like Bonnaroo, that has also added a movie/cinema element?)

1. John Turturro reunites with Jim Hoosier

If Jeff Bridges was able to make it to a Lebowski Fest, why not Mr. Turturro? Although I also would love to see a John Goodman or a Julianne Moore at a Fest - a special piece of my heart wants to see "Liam" (a frequent, beloved, guest at Lebowski Fests) partnered up again with "The Jesus." Doesn't the thought of it bring a smile to your soul?

Just so everyone knows: I have zero authority with any Lebowski Fest decision making. I'm just a lowly Achiever who asked the Founding Dudes if I could aimlessly write on their website. Obviously some of these wishes are very possible, and some are extremely unlikely... But that's my list. 2009 shattered everyone's expectations on what Lebowski Fest can produce - let's not have our dreams as constrained. Our dreams and wishes should be as limber as possible.

The "Best Jesus" from the First Lebowski Fest in Chicago (March 2008) was not exactly a lightweight. You can see his antics prominently showcased in Eddie Chung's The Achievers.

When he strutted (and he most certainly had the Quintana walk perfected) into Diversey River Bowl to defend his title, I don't think he expected the competition to be as good - or as sexy:

Maria May I, did win over the crowd (and me as well), but sadly finished as the runner up. Thankfully for us all, it didn't stop her from dancing.
